While at PUCL, Mr. Durack invented the Tube Identification Parameter System, later licensed and commercialized by Beckman-Coulter. He also assisted Stephen Kelley in the introduction of the first internet-based email list for cytometry which has grown to become one of the most successful conduits of information exchange in the field.
In 1993 Mr. Durack moved to Urbana-Champaign to become the Director of the University of Illinois Biotechnology Center Flow Cytometry Facility. In his seven years as director he secured over $1 million in grant and research contract support to modernize instrumentation and to develop new technologies at the UIUC Flow Cytometry Facility. During this period he collaborated with numerous UIUC faculty, taught a graduate course in flow cytometry, authored several papers and completed three book chapters.
